About The University
Mizoram University, established by an Act of Parliament (No. 8 of 2000) and operational since 2nd July 2001, is located on the scenic outskirts of Aizawl and sprawls across 978.1988 acres. Originally functioning as the Mizoram Campus of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the institution began with seven postgraduate departments before growing into a full-fledged central university. Over the past 22 years, it has made remarkable progress in infrastructure, academic programmes, human resources, and support facilities. The university earned NAAC ‘A’ grade accreditation in 2014 and 2019, upgraded to A+ in 2025, and secured ISO certification in 2018. Consistently featured among India’s top institutions, it ranked within the top 100 universities in NIRF from 2016 to 2023, achieved 76th and 77th positions in 2023 and 2024 respectively, and topped the North-East region in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022. With 39 active departments under 10 Schools of Study, 40 affiliated colleges, and one constituent college, the university offers a wide range of UG, PG, and Ph.D. programmes and has been a pioneer in implementing CBCS since 2013. In alignment with NEP 2020, it is transitioning toward holistic, multidisciplinary education. Recognized as an eco-friendly campus, Mizoram University was awarded Grade ‘A’ in the 2013 Green Audit and is among India’s early institutions to implement large-scale solar power systems across academic and residential blocks. The campus is inclusive, offering wheelchair access and disabled-friendly facilities, and fosters active student participation through NSS, SPIC MACAY, Red Ribbon Club, Techno Club, and other extension activities. With strong engagement in sports, cultural events, and professional coaching, students regularly represent the university in East Zone and All India Inter-University tournaments. About The Department
The Department of Computer Engineering, established in 2011 under the School of Engineering and Technology, Mizoram University, has grown into a dynamic centre for quality technical education and research. Beginning with the B.Tech programme in 2012, the department expanded its academic horizon with the launch of the M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering in 2018 and the Ph.D. programme in 2019, fostering advanced learning and innovation. With modern computer laboratories, ICT-enabled classrooms, and a state-of-the-art High Performance Computing Laboratory, the department supports cutting-edge work in AI, machine learning, IoT, data science, and computational research. Its curriculum prioritizes experiential and industry-oriented learning through workshops, internships, industrial training, and project-based activities. The department has secured several major funded research projects from DST, DST-SERB, and MZU–UGC, contributing to impactful advancements in agriculture, healthcare, weather forecasting, and digital technologies. Students have excelled in national examinations, research publications, internships, and innovation competitions, including winning startup grants under MeitY GENESIS. Academic vibrancy is further strengthened through conferences, FDPs, webinars, outreach programmes, and the annual departmental magazine published since 2023. With dedicated faculty, strong infrastructure, and an innovation-driven culture, the department continues to play a significant role in the technological progress of Mizoram and the nation.
